Before you delve into this weekend’s doughnut making class and sharpen your chef skills, we at Dabble recommend you prepare your palate by taste-testing some of Chicago’s uniquely delectable dough.

Begin your culinary journey with our Chicago Doughnut Crawl, and sample some of the city’s hole-iest confections—starting in Chicago’s fittingly-shaped Downtown Loop.

STOP 1: Rise at dawn, doughnut disciples! The first stop opens at 7:00 am on weekends, and you’ll need to arrive extra-early to get your pick of the delicious flavors at Do-Rite Donuts (50 W. Randolph St.). Treat your taste buds to Pistachio-Meyer Lemon, or satisfy a full breakfast fix with Candied Maple Bacon.

STOP 2: Hurry over to The Doughnut Vault (401 ½ N. Franklin St.), where doors open at 9:30 am on weekends to a long line of hungry patrons. Highest marks go to the Chestnut Glazed, though there is an ever-rotating selection of flavors to choose from, which you can find on their website. Wash it all down with a one-dollar cup of coffee—you did rise at dawn, after all.

STOP 3: Take a breather from full-sized donuts with a bite-sized donut hole from Firecakes (68 W. Hubbard St.). Try the Peanut Butter Cup, the jelly-filled Sufganiyot, or, if you’re still craving a savory twist, the Maple Glazed Pineapple & Bacon.

STOP 4: Head westward towards the semi-sweet delights at Glazed & Infused (813 W Fulton Market), including mouth-watering flavors like Crème Brûlée and Goat Cheese Blackberry. Handmade daily from locally sourced ingredients, treats here are on the healthier end of the doughnut spectrum.

STOP 5: The last stop on our Doughnut Loop takes you into Chicago’s French Market to Beavers Donuts (131 N. Clinton St.). Originally a food truck, Beavers has taken their miniature morsels stationary so you can find them at a moment’s notice. Try the Grandma, flavored with honey & graham cracker, or sample their new Donut Truffles.

STOP 6: Drink some water. Take a nap. You earned it, chef.
