IMG_2843Welcome to our new series, Super Dabbler! This series highlights a Dabbler who has taken a lot of Dabble classes and caught up with them to find out what inspires them to keep Dabbling.

Lexi Lau has taken 16 Dabble classes! That’s a lot of trying something new!

Lexi grew up in the ‘burbs, has lived in the city for 11 years, loves trying new things (hence all her extreme support of Dabble)! She’s not being biased or anything, but she happens to have the three most amazing sisters that she hangs out with often and the best family on earth. She loves (in no particular order): reading, mani/pedicures, Chicago, dogs, goat cheese, and mascara. You can find her on Instagram at Lexandthecity2024.

How did you find out about Dabble? Why do you love Dabbling? One of my gals was chit chatting about Dabble right when it was new to Chicago so I went to the website to check it out and was intrigued right away! I love it because it gives you the opportunity to explore things you have always wanted to, at an affordable price. The list of options is sometimes hilarious, and keeps me wanting to go back for more.

Finish this sentence, “When I’m not Dabbling, you can find me… You can find me at all different random places in Chicago! I love running on the Lakefront and recently started taking dance classes at Mazi Dance Fitness (mean girl hip hop anyone)? Weekends are usually occupied hanging with my gals, my pals and/or my 3 sisters. Avid tea drinker and explorer of new places to brunch at, especially in the Bucktown/Wicker Park area. Always up for trying a new place to drink, dine and shop and spending the rest of my free time cheering on our beloved Chicago Sports Team … especially the Chicago Bulls!

What has been your favorite Dabble class? It is so hard to narrow down to my favorite as I have done a ton but I will say that I am hooked on the hair and make-up classes at goldplaited (no joke, think I have taken them all) and the last class I took which was transferring a photo on to a piece of wood because I actually was successful doing it on my own after class! I haven’t taken a class that I walked grumpy out of and I am always having a friend or my cousin Brigette sign up with me, so I can share the knowledge & happiness!

What would you like to Dabble in? I often struggle finding cards I like/find appropriate at the store so would love to learn how to make my own hand-made cards. (We’ve got you covered Lexi, check out this class or that class!)

What is something you learned in the last week? I learned that freezing grapes makes a great replacement for ice cubes in non-chilled white wine … and it makes it look super cute.

What are your superpowers? Fist and foremost, I am pretty good at walking off awkward moments (i.e. tripping on the sidewalk or tucking my dress in my tights) and am also really good at color coordinating my daily planner. I feel I have a pretty good work/life balance, which is a direct result of my organization (a very nerdy super power).

If we came over for dinner what would you prepare for us? I love hosting parties, so would first probably have a theme so the dishes or the small décor would match. I am a huge fan of finger foods/sampler platters so you would probably be greeted with a tapas and sangria (enough to make you as full as a dinner). My favorite spreads are bacon wrapped dates, shrimp cocktail & horseradish, havarti – apple – cinnamon grilled cheese, fruit and anything with beets! Don’t worry, there will be dessert.

A little known fact about yourself? I am not the best runner, but I love it. I have completed 5 marathons and 10 half marathons.

What is your favorite place to travel to? If anyone were to ask me to pack my bags and head to Nashville for the weekend, I would do it without skipping a beat … something about that city is so freeing and just makes me happy. I also took an indescribable trip to Ireland a few years back … first night there we randomly stumbled upon a Mumford and Sons concert and the trip (if you can even imagine) kept getting better from there.

If you could get anyone to teach a Dabble class, who would it be and what would you want to learn from them? Would love Nick Offerman (aka Ron Swanson) to teach some sort of wood working class. Not that I have a huge need for a bird house or anything but think it’s a good trait to have.
