And now, we turn it over to Angela:
“I was drawn to this class because you could hand make your own posters. You often see quotes on pinterest that are made digitally, but how cool would it be try this old school process and create something analog.
This class was offered by Tandem Felix Letterpress in a 3rd floor space in Lacuna Artist Lofts in Pilsen. When you walk in you’re welcomed by Elizabeth and the cool atmosphere of words, letter blocks and custom posters. Liz and her husband Jamiel were so knowledgeable about the history of letterpress, wordsmithing and best of all, music! As Liz walked us through how to set up our word blocks, we also chatted about techno vs house music with a fellow Dabbler who used to be a Chicago DJ in her past life.
Liz also showed us the techniques of selecting various fonts and mapping out your work of art on paper. She even went over the history of why certain fonts and sizes were used to create limited and first edition books in the 1800s and even how newspapers used to be printed as the process evolved.”
