Welcome back to Super Dabbler! This series highlights a Dabbler who has taken a lot of Dabble classes and caught up with them to find out what inspires them to keep Dabbling.

Courtney McCormack has taken 11 Dabble classes! That’s a lot of trying something new!

Courtney is 34, married, and a mother of 2 felines. She’s an advertising copywriter who co-founded a sketch comedy writing group, and produces original shows around Chicago. In the spirit of trying something new, she just started taking improv and acting classes, so you might catch her performing soon, too. You can find her on Twitter at @winkerbeans.

How did you find out about Dabble? Why do you love Dabbling? I had a teacher at Chicago Portfolio School, Maria, who was teaching a class called “How to Get Your Dream Job.” That was 2012, and I’m still Dabblin’!

Finish this sentence, “When I’m not Dabbling, you can find me… I’d love to say “working out” but the answer is probably eating or watching Netflix.

What has been your favorite Dabble class? I like the classes where I actually learn a new skill I can keep or show off. I can’t believe how quickly everyone in my class learned how to cross-stitch. I had awesome holiday gifts that year. And being a comedy nerd, stand-up was thrilling. You’re actually up and doing it by the end of class.

What would you like to Dabble in? Furniture re-upholstery! Have you had that yet? My mom took a class in college and re-covered a bad-ass chair. (Dabble here! Yes, we have had an Upholstery Workshop in the past, and we’re contacting the teacher to see if she’ll list again. Great suggestion Courtney!)

What is something you learned in the last week? Improv! Not all of it, just some new exercises.

What are your superpowers? Superpowered vision! My eyes are better than 20/20 – last I checked they were 20/17. People like having me with them to watch sports – I can always read the score.

If we came over for dinner what would you prepare for us? Oh good, I love to cook! If the weather cooperates, we’ll definitely grill – let’s do burgers – definitely with avocado and on a toasted pretzel bun. My husband is pretty sure he invented grilled tater tots last week, so those will also be on the menu, too. Bon Appétit!

A little known fact about yourself? I use the name “Winkerbeans” on social media. It’s a nickname from my mom, my family legitimately calls me by it, and it is derived from the nursery rhyme “Wee Willie Winkie.” No idea why, maybe I wasn’t a great sleeper?

What is your favorite place to travel to? Hubs and I just went to Maui – which might be the most beautiful place in the world, beach category. But I think my favorite trip so far was Italy. I also love camping.

If you could get anyone to teach a Dabble class, who would it be and what would you want to learn from them? Tina Fey. She doesn’t even have to teach anything comedy-related. If she’s teaching, I’ll learn it.
